Juneteenth, or Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.Â
There are many events in the city and neighborhood for people to learn, celebrate, and honor the holiday. Here’s where you can:Â
African American Museum of Dallas
On Saturday, June 21, the museum will hold an event for everyone to spend the day exploring rich history, powerful exhibits, and special programming designed for all ages. There will be storytelling, live performances, and hands-on activities. Admission is free, and the event is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Juneteenth Golf Classic
Presented by the Dallas Mavericks, Juneteenth Golf Classic looks to celebrate the holiday by promoting black-owned businesses and organizations through golf. It will be held at the Gulf Club of Dallas, Texas’s only Black-owned golf course. The event runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.Â
Ditch Day Dallas
Celebrate Juneteenth with music, drinks, food, and fun at Sidecar Social on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The address is 5100 Belt Line Rd.Â
Juneteenth Family Fun Day
Celebrate Juneteenth with your family at the Dallas Arboretum. There will be hands-on activities, live music, the gorgeous gardens, and a petting zoo for you and your family to celebrate. It’s an all-day event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Afrobeats Pool Party
Head down to the Statler Hotel for a rooftop pool party. There will be non-stop Afrobeat music and good vibes. It’s a 21 and over only event. The pool party will start at 6 p.m. and end at midnight.Â
