Lola Tung, Lili Reinhart, Alexandra Shipp and Victoria Pedretti relax on the set of ‘Forbidden Fruits’

New York-based filmmaker Meredith Alloway is set to direct “Forbidden Fruits,” her first feature-length film. The Lake Highlands High School graduate cowrote the screenplay with Lily Houghton, adapting Houghton’s play, “Of the Women Came the Beginning of Sin, and Through Her We All Die.”

“I’m so grateful to have found a home for ‘Forbidden Fruits’ with IFC Films, a studio who continually encourages filmmakers to experiment, hone their voice and play within the medium,” Alloway said in a statement. “IFC Films has produced and distributed so many films that have directly inspired me over the years. The team has gifted me creative freedom and support in every step of the process, down to advocating for a theatrical release — a true gift to any filmmaker.”

Oscar winner Diablo Cody will produce the project, which follows Apple, a woman who secretly runs a witchy femme cult in the basement of a mall store after hours.

“’Forbidden Fruits’ grabbed me by the neck the very first time I read it,” Cody told Deadline. “It’s one of the craziest, most creative, beautifully bonkers projects I’ve ever worked on. I feel so lucky to be collaborating with Meredith and Lily, who have become heroes of mine in short order.”

Victoria Pedretti, Lili Reinhart, Alexandra Shipp, Lola Tung and Emma Chamberlain have leading roles in the picture.

“This cast of incredible artists has exceeded my wildest expectations,” added Alloway. “As a true fan of all of their work, it’s an absolute thrill to see them bring these characters to life.”

Alloway’s short films include “Deep Tissue,” “Ride” and “First Date.” She has several features in development, including “High Priestess,” “Body Count” and “Anyone But You.”

“Forbidden Fruits” is expected to be released in 2026.
