Gather your squad and fine-tune your chili recipe, friends. The Lake Highlands Middle School Chili Cook Off is back, and the winners will take home the 2025 title.
LHMS parents are organizing the event again after the pandemic shut it down, and they’ve challenged the community to enter their favorite secret recipe. Teams of up to eight people will choose a creative name and theme, and they’ll decorate their tent and dress to fit the part. Competitors will cook four gallons of chili to share.
First, second and third place winners will be proclaimed in the categories of Best Chili, Best Booth, Best Costumes and Best Add-On Menu Item. Winners in previous years took inspiration from popular movies, television shows, musical acts and other general nonsense.
Each team will provide their own canopy tent, equipment to heat the chili, and clean up supplies. Serving cups for chili will be provided. Your $225 fee includes entry to the event and eight event t-shirts. You may register your team online here.
If you are more sampler than chef, you may purchase $40 admission tickets here. Live music is also on tap, with Why Ike?, an alternative country band, playing covers and original songs.
The chili cook off will be held Feb. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 8550 Lullwater.
