What’s better than freshly made pico de gallo and warm tortillas made in-store at H-E-B? Not a thing, friend. Not one dang thing.
H-E-B stores announced today that they’re planning a new location inside the LBJ loop. They’ve purchased the 10-acre office complex just down LBJ from Lake Highlands at the southeast corner of Hillcrest and 635, and they’re working with neighbors and city officials on planning and rezoning.
“While we have a lot of work to do, we look forward to connecting with our neighbors, the city, and community stakeholders to ensure we create a destination that best supports this community,” said Mabrie Jackson, Public Affairs Managing Director for H-E-B and Central Market. “This is the first step in a long process, and we hope to share more details with our neighbors soon.”
A subsidiary of H-E-B purchased the property. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
H-E-B has three popular Central Market locations in Dallas, but neighbors have beseeched the company for years via social media and email campaign to build an H-E-B store inside the city limits. Expansions to Plano, Allen, McKinney and Frisco have resulted in neighbors camping out on opening day to be the first customers inside.
So, what will you buy when the Hillcrest store opens?
Southern Living says H-E-B’s Creamy Creations ice cream is on their “best of” list and claims the taste “rivals even Texas based Blue Bell.” Now that’s high cotton. In-house breads and pastries, like Bakery Scratch Cranberry Pistachio Bread, are also lauded, along with H-E-B Texan Pecan coffee, with its creamy caramel flavor. Editors call H-E-B’s fresh guacamole a “personal secret shortcut when hosting,” with a flavor that “could easily beat many restaurants.”
The folks at Eat This, Not That! are also big fans of H-E-B, and you may read their full list of favorites here. They have high praise for the Meal Simple series in the deli section, including the Rotisserie Chicken Salad made with celery, onion and creamy dressing. The Brisket Queso Dip is also a hit, with precooked brisket, pico and two flavors of cheese. For dessert, try H-E-B’s Two-Bite Brownies, with double-roasted cocoa and real chocolate, or Lemon Almonds, with lemon yogurt coating.
If you can’t wait until H-E-B opens, Central Market is owned by H-E-B and the store at Preston Forest carries many H-E-B brand products. The nearest open H-E-B is at 6001 Preston Road at Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
