Christmas cheer will return to the Lake Highlands Town Center this weekend with the annual Light Up The Highlands celebration.
The Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League’s annual tree lighting celebration, going into its tenth year at the Lake Highlands Town Center, will take place this Sunday from 4-6 p.m. Admission is free and parking can be found across the street at DART’s Lake Highlands station.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos at the event (neighbors can enter a raffle for a chance to win a fast pass which allows their family to skip the lines). Other advertised attractions include a snow luge, ice skating, 360 photo booth and local performances.
The Christmas Market, returning for its third year, will feature 12 local vendors selling neighborhood goods. Food vendors include Cedar & Vine and Cane Rosso. Cane Rosso personal pizzas will be available for purchase for $12-13.
NorthPark Presbyterian Church’s Reverse Food Truck will also make its way back to the Town Center for this year’s celebration. If the name didn’t give it away, the truck operates as a “mobile food drive,” with neighbors being able to donate non-perishable food items directly to organizations like the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry.
Festivities will conclude with the traditional countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree, which organizers have advertised as new and “bigger than ever.”
The event is held each year on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. This year’s celebration will mark the tenth anniversary of Light Up the Highlands, and the LHJWL is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Light Up The Highlands will take place on Sunday, December 1 from 4-6 p.m. at 7100 Wildcat Way, close to the intersection of Skillman Street and Walnut Hill Lane.
