What’s better than an October golf tournament at Firewheel Golf Park when the leaves are turning and the air is crisp? A charity golf tournament where proceeds enable mentors to support boys in Lake Highlands without a father-figure in their life.

If you aren’t familiar with Forerunner Mentoring, it won’t take long to understand and appreciate their simple and ingenious concept: dedicated male volunteers agree to provide guidance, direction and, heck, just good old-fashioned friendship, to boys whose dad cannot or will not lead the family. Gentle words of encouragement, along with the gift of time, show a kid he matters. He learns he can accomplish amazing things, and his life is forever changed.

Gives you chills, right?

Forerunner Mentoring is hosting a golf tournament October 30 at Firewheel, and they are currently registering participants online here. The 10 a.m. shotgun start will be followed at 2 p.m. by awards and raffles. You may learn more by emailing Lake Highlands High School grad Taylor Stell at tstell@lee-associates.com or Steve Giddens at s.giddens@forerunnermentoring.com.
