Healing Hands dental clinic 1

Healing Hands Ministries does an incredible job providing health care to the needy among us, and their addition of a dental clinic has brought thousands of patients into the clinic for help with oral health. LH’s own Dr. Kerri Goad, DDS leads the team of volunteer dental health care professionals, but they can’t keep up with the need so they’re asking the community, “Can you recommend a good dentist?”

Healing Hands will host an Ice Cream Social Monday, June 7 from 6:30 to 8 pm in hopes of recruiting volunteer dentists and hygienists to help. Volunteers serve once a month, once a week or whatever fits their schedule, and most are surprised to see the state-of-the-art dental equipment (mostly donated) used at the clinic. Two digital x-ray units (hand-held and static), brand-new hand pieces, instruments, sterilizer and a Cavitron allow the team to do extractions, fillings, sealants and cleanings. They hope to be able to provide dentures soon.

“Instead of asking the community for money, we’re asking our supporters for help inviting their favorite dentists and hygienists to volunteer,” said Mark Wingfield, chairman of the board of directors. “We are experiencing miraculous growth in serving our community, but we have many more patients than we can help in a timely manner.” Healing Hands needs 8 dentists per month to serve Thursday evenings from 6-9 pm. Day shifts are also available.

If you’d like to bring your dentist or dental assistant, you too are invited to the party. And if you’d like to write a check, there’s a scoop of chocolate chip calling your name. It’s likely to be the most rewarding ice cream you’ll ever eat.
