Red, a Taylor Swift tribute act, will return to Oktoberfest Dallas this September for an encore performance.
Riding a wave of Swifty mania, the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands booked the Texas-based tribute act as Cory Morrow’s opener in 2024. The move paid off big time, club officers told the Advocate, as the event drew its largest crowd ever.
“We had a massive crowd, significantly younger, lots of junior high and high school age kids, but also their parents, which is good there,” newly-elected Exchange Club President Bill Boyd said. “And the crowd for Red was significantly bigger than that crowd for our headliner, which was funny.”
Boyd said the tribute act will return for this year’s Oktoberfest Dallas, which will be held on September 27 at Flag Pole Hill Park. Based in North Texas, the act is headlined by frontwoman Lauren Corzine, who, choreographer Danielle Willis told CBS Texas, creates “more accessible shows with that same feeling (as a Taylor Swift concert).”
The tribute act will stay in Dallas through the following Thursday, when they will travel to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Museum for a Cool Thursdays concert on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn. Last year, tickets to the Red show at the Arboretum sold out quickly. Along with Red, the fall Cool Thursday Concert Series lineup includes tribute acts honoring icons like Bob Seger, Elton John, Queen, ABBA and Beyonce.
Exchange Club leadership also hinted that a disco band would join Red in the lineup, although no specifics were mentioned. Last year, the lineup included six acts, including two neighborhood student bands.
Oktoberfest Dallas was started in 2010 at the Lake Highlands Town Center before moving to Flag Pole Hill to accommodate growing crowds. In the past, musical acts have included Old 97’s, Charlie Robison and Bob Schneider.
The Advocate will continue to provide Oktoberfest updates and coverage as the festival approaches.
