Lake Highlands High School’s basketball team will host an NBA Draft watch party Wednesday night as former standout Tre Johnson remains high on prospect leaderboards.
The NBA Draft will begin on June 25 this year. Although the number one overall pick, which fell to the Mavericks in the Draft Lottery, is widely expected to be used on Duke’s Cooper Flagg, former Lake Highlands High School standout Tre Johnson is expected to be a top ten pick.
To celebrate the former Wildcat’s potential entry into professional basketball, the team is hosting a draft party at Underdog Restaurant and Sports Club from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday night. Neighbors are welcome to attend, with 20% of sales going to support the team.
The six-foot-six guard, who won SEC Freshman of the Year and was a Jerry West Award nominee, has been rising in mock drafts in recent weeks. CBS Sports’ latest mock draft projects Johnson to be selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third overall pick.
In 33 games played (started in all), Johnson averaged 19.9 points per game while shooting 42.7% from the field. He also set a single-game scoring record for the Longhorns, beating a record previously held by Kevin Durant.
He won the UIL 6A D1 Boys’ Basketball Championship with the Wildcats in 2023. Johnson later transferred to Link Academy in Missouri before committing to the Longhorns in 2023 as the number four prospect in his class.
