Ahead of NBA Draft Day, former Lake Highlands High School standout Tre Johnson has earned high marks in several of the latest mock drafts.
Johnson, who led Texas in scoring this past season as a true freshman, declared for the NBA Draft on April 8. When Johnson declared, most mock drafts viewed the six-foot-six guard as top ten pick. That momentum seems to be carrying over into early summer, with one of the latest mock drafts projecting Johnson to go as high as the third overall pick.
CBS Sports’ latest mock draft picks Johnson to go third overall to the Philadelphia 76ers. NBA Analyst Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports projects the guard to go to the Utah Jazz with the fifth overall pick, as does USA Today. In ESPN’s latest mock draft, one analyst expects Johnson to go seventh overall, while another argues the Brooklyn Nets will pick up the prospect with the eighth pick.
In his only season at Texas, he set the school’s single-game freshman scoring record, led the Longhorns in scoring and was named a Jerry West Award nominee. At the end of the season, he was named SEC Freshman of the Year.
Johnson committed to Texas as a five-star recruit from Link Academy in St. Louis. Before transferring to Link, he led the Wildcats to a state championship in 2023. That year, he was named SBLive Sports’ National Player of the Year.
The NBA Draft begins June 25 at 7 p.m.Â
