FLA Assistant Principal Rebecca Herrera was recently named Richardson ISD’s Elementary-level Assistant Principal of the Year, and apparently, she’s not resting on her laurels. On June 2, Herrera created a GoFundMe page to raise funds to bring the school’s mascot, the jaguar, to life.

The page has a $570 fundraising goal, with $330 raised at the time of publication. Proceeds will be given to the FLA PTA for the purchase of a jaguar mascot suit.

Forest Lane Academy is a Title 1 school. Out of 625 enrolled students listed in 2024-25 TEA PEIMS reports, 593 were listed as economically disadvantaged.

“Although some would see these components as a barrier for high levels of learning, our campus believes quite the opposite,” the GoFundMe page reads. “We provide rich experiences for our students and consistently grow students academically and socio-emotionally. We would love to add a jaguar mascot to our campus for that extra bit of spirit and pride that we know our students will appreciate.”
