Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert named five finalists to be considered for Dallas police chief.
A nationwide search for the new police chief ensued after former Chief Eddie Garcia left the position and went to Austin last fall. The list of finalists was narrowed down from 25 candidates, according to a City of Dallas press release. The finalists are:
- Michael T. Igo, Dallas Police Department interim chief
- Catrina M. Shead, Dallas Police Department assistant chief
- Roberto Arredondo, Jr., Carrollton Police Department chief
- Brian Boetig, retired FBI assistant director
- Daniel C. Comeaux, Drug Enforcement Agency special agent in charge of the Houston Field Division
Tolbert is expected to make the final selection by the second week of April.
“This search has produced an impressive pool of candidates with proven law enforcement leadership experience from a variety of agencies across the country,” Tolbert said in the press release. “Through the next step in this process, we will gain valuable insight into each candidate’s vision for continuing to make Dallas one of the safest large cities in the U.S., how they plan to attract and retain top talent and innovate within the department.”
The finalists are expected to meet with the Dallas City Council and members of the feedback panels starting at 4 p.m. March 31 at City Hall. They will meet with feedback panels again on April 1 starting at 8 a.m. and then attend a public meet and greet that evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Then, the finalists will meet with Tolbert and other leaders on April 2.
