The first NCAA Tournament game, St. Francis U against Alabama State, will tip-off tonight at 5:40 p.m. CST, signalling the beginning of March Madness. Eight teams will compete over the next two days as part of the First Four games, in which eight lower-seeded teams are given the chance to secure a spot in the First Round through play-in games.

One such team is Texas. Led in scoring by former LHHS standout Tre Johnson, the Longhorns will tip-off on March 19 against Xavier at 8:30 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio. Johnson is coming off a stellar season in which he was named SEC Freshman of the Year and set a Texas freshman scoring record in an overtime loss to Arkansas. He is currently a finalist for the Jerry West Award, which is annually given to the top shooting guard in Division 1 basketball, and has been mentioned in NBA Draft discussions as a top prospect.

Samson Aletan, a 2023 graduate, is currently playing for Yale. Standing at six-foot-ten, Aletan and the Bulldogs will see their first taste of action Thursday night against Texas A&M at 6:25 p.m. The winner of the game will go up against the winner of UC San Diego/Michigan in the Second Round.

The tournament will run until the NCAA Championship Game on April 7. Information on viewing can be found here.
