Lake Highlands High School defeated Irving MacArthur Tuesday night 48 to 43. Nope, that wasn’t the score of the basketball game — it was the softball final.
A total of 91 runs were scored on 72 hits by the two teams, and 36 bases were stolen. Walks numbered 47, and 45 runs were scored while two outs threatened. The seven inning game lasted four hours.
The reason for the high score was undoubtedly the near-hurricane level winds in the Dallas area Tuesday night. Gusts climbed as high as 80 miles per hour during the game, frustrating not only the players but the school’s Junior ROTC, which presented the colors during the national anthem.
Pitcher Rhian McCarty earned MVP honors, aka “Queen of the Game.”
If you’re disappointed to have missed such an exciting contest, take heart. The Lady Wildcats travel to Irving to face MacArthur again Friday night.
