As North Texas remains under an extreme cold warning, Dallas Sanitation Services is notifying neighbors of potential collection delays.
The National Weather Service has placed most of Dallas-Fort Worth under an extreme cold warning until at least 9 a.m. Thursday due to sub-zero wind chills. Temperatures are not expected to remain consistently above freezing until Friday, according to the NWS forecast.
In response, Dallas’ Department of Sanitation Services is warning neighbors of potential collection delays. Collection routes worked by automated trucks are not expected to be affected. Manual collection routes (those requiring workers to collect bins and ride on trucks) have been temporarily suspended until conditions improve.
The department expects “cascading delays” to affect collection schedules through Friday. Crews will work through Saturday to catch up on collection and any left over materials will be picked up next week. Garbage collection will take priority over recycling, per a release.
Dallas Sanitation will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they come. For updates, check the department’s website.
