The Girl Scouts of the USA began selling cookies in 1917 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 2020, Fox Business reported that the initiative raises over $800 million dollars a year, with proceeds benefiting Girl Scouts’ programming.

According to the Girl Scouts’ website, the program helps scouts learn goal setting, money management, decision making, people skills and business ethics.

Popular flavors include Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, and the original, Trefoils. But two flavors are being discontinued after this year, so if you’re a fan of either, it might be time to stock up. Girl Scouts S’mores and Toast-Yay! cookies will both be discontinued after the 2025 season, Girl Scouts of the USA announced in a Jan. 7 press release.

The Lake Highlands area is home to a large number of Girl Scout Troops, often based out of neighborhood churches. This year, cookies can be bought at an array of locations around the neighborhood, including Vector Brewing, Sam’s Club on McCree Road, White Rock Coffee and Hollywood Feed at Lake Highlands Town Center.

The Girl Scouts’ website has a cookie finder by Zip Code. For a complete list of booth locations and hours in and around Lake Highlands, click here.
