Implemented for the 2023-24 school year, the two way Spanish immersion program places an equal number of English and Spanish-speaking students in a mixed-language learning environment. Enrollment is currently open to the Lake Highlands and Berkner learning communities.

There will be two information sessions for families wanting to learn more about the program. The first is scheduled for Jan. 16 at 9 a.m. and the second will be on Jan. 30 at the same time. Both sessions will be hosted at the elementary school.

Enrollment in the program is currently decided via lottery, with students who live in the campus attendance zone and siblings of those currently enrolled in the program receiving priority. Currently, the program is open for enrollment for students in pre-k, kindergarten and first grade.

Designed to create “bi-literate, bilingual, and bicultural scholars,” the program is tailored to the needs of both English and Spanish-speaking students. Early grades are intended to receive around 80% of their instruction in Spanish before transitioning to a 50/50 model by third grade.
