According to a Dallas Fire-Rescue press release, DFR units responded to a 911 call concerning a building fire at 11363 Amanda Lane on Saturday morning. Upon their arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building’s third floor and roof.

DFR officials say firefighters received reports of a woman trapped on the second floor and were able to use a fire ladder to successfully evacuate the resident, who was taken to a local hospital for smoke exposure treatment.

The fire was officially extinguished at 1:59 p.m. that afternoon, according to the release. Suppression efforts were defensive in their nature from the onset of DFR’s response. The building suffered major structural damage, including a collapsed roof.

According to the release, 12 units were left uninhabitable, leaving an undisclosed number of individuals displaced.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, DFR officials say they have determined that the fire began on a second floor balcony, although the specific cause is still unknown.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by an affected family, who say the funds will be “distributed equally” among 36 affected families.
