PTA volunteers at Wallace Elementary (WE) have long taken pride in the nurturing and inclusive atmosphere provided by teachers and staff at their neighborhood school. Children arrive there from nations all over the world speaking a myriad of languages and dialects, and families say campus diversity enhances the educational experience. According to U.S. News and World Report, Wallace has just under 600 students, and 60% are economically disadvantaged. As a Title One campus, Wallace receives federal funds based on the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
This year, the PTA has launched a “WE Love Wallace” fundraising campaign, and their goal is to enrich the learning environment for every student, teacher and staff member. Wallace alumni families — and the entire community — are encouraged to participate.
Funds raised will pay for field trips, academic and behavioral rewards and classroom supplies. They’ll also fund events like Multicultural Night, Donuts with Grown Ups and more.
“The ‘WE Love Wallace’ campaign is vital for ensuring that every student at Wallace Elementary has access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed,” says Lorin Anderson, president of Wallace’s PTA. “By supporting this initiative, we are investing in the future of our children and our community.”
The campaign runs until Sept. 19, and donations may be made online here. Checks may also be mailed, payable to Wallace PTA, to the school at 9921 Kirkhaven Drive.
