Richardson ISD students have been in class since August 13, but most neighbors haven’t been inside the newly built Lake Highlands Middle School. Taste of Lake Highlands is your chance.

Taste of LH, hosted Sept. 5 by LHMS staff and members of the PTA, will officially open the school to the community at 5:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at the Walnut Hill entrance. A PTA meeting will be held at 6, followed by an open house with self-guided tours. Dozens of local vendors will line the halls until 8 p.m.

Admission is free, although food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

In 2021, the RISD board of trustees voted to transition from a junior high to a middle school model. Changes to LHJH and Forest Meadow were financed through the 2021 bond, and changes to other district junior highs were proposed for the 2026 bond. Currently, sixth graders in Lake Highlands are the only students in the district attending middle school instead of elementary school.
