Almost two years after it was announced that Colorado-based chicken restaurant Birdcall would move into Lakeridge Village, building permits for the site have yet to be issued.

It was originally announced that Birdcall would move into Lakeridge Village in August of 2022. However, permit issues have hampered its development. According to Dallas’ online permit database, a certificate of occupancy application was submitted on Oct. 22, 2022, followed by applications for master building permits for new construction and site work on Dec. 13. All three applications were canceled on Dec. 9, 2023.

Cancellation of an application can either happen when an applicant withdraws their application, or the City decides the application is incomplete.

New applications for a certificate of occupancy and master building permits were filed on March 28 of this year. The CO application is currently listed as under review, and the master building permits have not yet been issued.

The first master permit applications originally valued the project’s cost at $800,000 for a 1,196-square-foot space. The new applications value the cost at $600,000 for a 1,332-square-foot space. The newest certificate of occupancy application states that the building’s maximum occupancy will be 99 individuals.

Birdcall’s application for a liquor permit for the site was approved on Feb. 23, 2023.

While it remains to be seen what the future holds for Birdcall at Lakeridge Village, one thing is certain: Lake Highlands has waited a long time for a grand opening.
