The event will take place at 1771 Terre Colony Court, close to the main DAS shelter, on Friday, July 26. Dropoff is at 7:30 a.m, with pickup at 3:30 p.m. The event is for unowned cats only, who must be caught in a humane trap. The event will include spaying/neutering, microchipping and vaccinations.

50 total cats will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. There is no limit on cats per trapper, but no more than one can be held in a trap at once. Cats must weigh a minimum of two pounds. The event is exclusively open to City of Dallas residents.

Operation Kindess is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization which shelters and provides medical assistance for homeless pets.

Community, or stray, cats are feral or unowned cats which live in a certain neighborhood. According to Dallas Animal Services, they can play an important role in pest control. Additionally, DAS does not conduct catch-and-kill operations, instead preferring to vaccinate, neuter and release. This contains the population without creating a vacuum for new feral cats to move into.
