Born and raised in the Garden State of New Jersey, Hiscock grew up picking fruit and eating vegetables grown in her family’s garden. She wandered through fields and forests as a child and tended the family chickens and geese. Moving to Texas was a big adjustment, she says, with its black clay soil and oppressive heat.

Over the years, Hiscock has studied plants native to this region. Her container gardening program kicks off at 3 p.m. in the library’s west meeting room. The program is free and open to the public.
