Dre Whitney, a 2023 LHHS alum, won Best Drama at the 2023 All American High School Film Festival in New York City.
The award comes with a $45,000 college scholarship.
While Whitney came home empty handed last year, this years film, The Healing Note, was nominated for four other awards: Best Overall, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Screenplay.
The film, which follows the journey of a young boy with tremors, is available on the film festival’s YouTube.
The All American High School Film Festival is the biggest film festival for high school students from all over the globe. They receive thousands of submissions every year and focus on recognizing future filmmakers with the recognition and rewards they deserve, according to their website.
Whitney is currently a first-year student at AMDA College of the Performing Arts in Los Angeles.
