Today is Snapshot Day for the University Interscholastic League, the day high schools across the state report their official enrollment number for the purpose of district realignment. Lake Highlands High School is set to continue competing in 6A, but Highland Park, the school geographically nearest in our district and a frequent rival, will move back to 5A.

After the 2022 realignment, HPHS barely had enough students with 2245.5 to bump up to 6A. Today they turned in a count of 2,165, well below the cutoff line.

LHHS reported 2,974 students today, up 4.3% from our count of 2,852 in 2022.

When Jesuit College Prep was admitted to the UIL in 2003, they agreed to play in 6A and double their numbers, since they are a private, all-boys school. That means their enrollment today of 1,147 becomes 2,294, up 2.6% from 2022.

Snapshot numbers determine realignment for 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. The UIL will unveil official district groupings February 1, 2024. Go Cats.
