After a hot Texas summer, the new school year is upon Lake Highlands. With backpacks and notebooks comes soccer goals, football helmets, and volleyball pads. Here are four sports programs to plug kids into this school year:
SLAM VOLLEYBALL: Slam Volleyball is the perfect volleyball program for beginners and returners to the sport. Slam offers back-to-school clinics, tryout prep camps and junior advanced volleyball academy for 6th to 9th graders. They also offer a youth academy for 2nd to 6th and a serving clinic for 4th to 8th graders. Richland College head volleyball coach Grace Wells joins Slam this year.
LAKE HIGHLANDS SOCCER ASSOCIATION: Lake Highlands Soccer Association is a non-profit organization for over 35 years. Their goal is to create a fun and safe environment for boys and girls to play soccer, build character, learn sportsmanship and develop and fine-tune skills. Along the way, kids will have the opportunity to make new friends in their community.
YMCA LAKE HIGHLANDS: The YMCA youth sports program offers soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, t-ball and softball. According to their website, “the YMCA Youth Sports philosophy is to allow kids to participate in a non-competitive program with an emphasis on fun, development of character, and fair play.”
NEXT LEVEL SPORTS: Next Level Sports Group is dedicated to the development of all athletes, their families and their communities using sports training to positively impact their lives. “NLSG believes that this development should focus on the whole student: athletically, academically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually.” Their facilities mainly focus on batting and pitching and offer batting cage rentals. They offer camps, clinics, and classes for the upcoming fall and spring.
