The bashes take place at Lake Highlands High School and Berkner High School Saturday, July 29 from 9-11 a.m. and at Richardson High School August 5 from 9-11 a.m..

The free event is a chance for families to not only receive supplies but also to learn more about RISD programs and services.

Last year RISD distributed more than 5,000 backpacks and supply kits. “This year, we hope to give 7,500 backpacks out,” administrators say in a release.

Parents and guardians can register to receive a backpack for each child enrolled in a RISD school and residing in their household. Once you register you will receive an e-ticket. Bring this with you to the event. Email reminders will be sent one week prior to the Bash.

Those in a position to do so can donate to the Backpack Bash in cash or in kind (“food, haircuts, healthcare, wellness, etc.,” according to the district.  Every $20 donation buys a backpack with supplies.

Local businesses and foundations are encouraged to be a Backpack Bash sponsor.

“Through supporting this annual summer event, your organization helps make sure all RISD students will begin the school year with the tools they need to connect, learn, grow, and succeed,” note administrators.
