Team USA will play at the 2023 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary from June 24 to July 2. The United States has won this tournament eight times, including three of the last four competitions.

University of Colorado head coach Tad Boyle coaches the team, assisted by Mike Boynton Jr. from Oklahoma State and Leon Rice from Boise State. Johnson’s teammates include 11 top players from around the country, including fellow seniors Ian Jackson from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, Asa Newell from Monteverde Academy in Florida and Dylan Harper from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey. Four more are college freshmen and four are college sophomores.

“It would mean a lot to me just being able to compete with other good players knowing that I was one of the 12 taken to represent for the country,” Johnson told Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.com. “That would be very cool doing the sport you love and competing for the country.”
