Baseball has the World Series. Football has the Super Bowl. Soccer has the World Cup. And when it’s time to choose the champions of high school wrestling, elite athletes head to Fargo, North Dakota, for the USA Nationals – the largest wrestling tournament in the world.
Fernanda Lopez and Sarah Conner are preparing to make the trip, and there’s good reason to believe both girls will be successful. Lopez competed in Fargo last year and was named an All American. At the 2023 state UIL competition, she took first in her division. Conner placed third as a junior.
Lopez graduated from LHHS in May, and she’ll wrestle for Southern Oregon State in the fall. Last year, their women’s wrestling team was first in the nation.
