Lake Highlands Women’s League volunteers presented $83,000 in college scholarships to 22 graduating seniors Friday. The funds were generated from their annual Holiday in the Highlands home tour, a neighborhood tradition since 1978.
“The students we met were incredibly impressive,” said Stephanie Walne, LHWL scholarship chair. “These recipients are articulate, poised and determined to achieve their goals and are working hard to do so. The Lake Highlands Women’s League is so proud to be a part of helping support their future success.”
Recipients were Josephine Akinrotimi (UT Arlington), Maxwell Allen (University of Texas), Archer Davies (Oregon State University), Allie Delgado (University of Texas), Fathia Fasasi (Georgetown University), Victor Flores Sanchez (TCU or Baylor), Fiona Hasse (Hardin-Simmons University), Josie Howell (University of Texas), Ellie Jordan (Dallas Baptist University), Colin Keaton (Texas A&M University), Sher Moo Ku (Austin College), Cung Lian (University of Arkansas), Logan Lusignan (University of Dallas), Joy Ngungi (UT Arlington), Carson Payne (University of Oklahoma), Kendall Schorn (Texas A&M), Gabriel Scott (Purdue University), Charlotte Strohl (University of Kansas), Layne Temple (Auburn University), Rosie Thluai (UTA or UNT), Tobi-Olotu Oluwaferanmi (UNT or SMU) and Tessa Whitham (University of Texas).
In addition to the scholarships, the League gave almost $50,000 in grants to area schools and community nonprofits.
