The men’s first varsity 4+ finished first, the second varsity 8+ finished third, and the third varsity 8+ finished second at the March 25 races at the Montlake Cut, the University of Washington’s home course.

“I know what a true testament it is to stay focused while you have hundreds of fans cheering your name,” said Austin Brooks, DUC’s executive director and interim men’s head coach, who’s an alumnus of the University of Washington. “Our athletes did a great job of being in the moment and racing to their fullest.”

The University of Washington established a rowing program in 1901, and its first intercollegiate race was in 1903, when the school defeated California. In 1936, the team won the gold medal in the Berlin Olympics.
