La Gringa, Vector’s Trompo-inspired Rotator Pizza from January

Today is National Pizza Day, which gives you permission to eat as many yummy, cheesy pies as you can find in Lake Highlands. And that’s a lot of pizza.

Tony’s Pizza and Pasta is old-school, offering homemade pastas and New York-style pizzas in a simple setting. The Northlake shopping center staple is a favorite of teens after school and families at dinnertime, but if you’d like a Birra Peroni or glass of wine, it’s BYOB.

Tony’s is at 10233 Northwest Hwy. #504, and their menu is here.

Primo Brothers, on the opposite side of the neighborhood, draws the Texas Instruments crowd at lunchtime and Kitty Carter dance students after school. Their “slice and salad special” is a big seller, but they have a full menu of pastas and delicious desserts.

Primo Brothers is at 9310 Forest Ln. # 334, and their menu is here.

Vector Brewing may come to mind on National Brewpub Day, but they make a mean margarita (pizza). Located deep in the corner of Lakeridge Village, they welcome young families (and dogs) on their expansive patio, with pizza sauces and doughs created daily in-house. “Joyful Hour” is from 4-8 p.m. at Vector, followed by “Kiddie Curfew” — time for little ones to head home.

Vector is at 9850 Walnut Hill #405, and the menu is here.

Fireside Pies features artisanal wood-fired pizza and rustic Italian dishes. Their hand-tossed pies have gourmet toppings, including garlic shrimp, smoked provolone, organic mushrooms and house-made spicy sausage. Desserts include fruit cobblers, blackberry cheesecake and cocoa brownies.

Fireside Pies is at 6750 Abrams Rd. #105, and their menu is here.

MoMo Italian Kitchen is known more for its ravioli and risotto than pizza, but their menu includes goodies like Pizza Alla Boscaiola with ham and mushrooms and Pizza Rustico with salame, pork and chicken. Don’t sleep on their Contorni (sharable side dishes) like spinach dumplings and peas in prosciutto cream sauce.

MoMo is at 8989 Forest Ln. #130, and their menu is here.

ZaLat Pizza is located just outside the bounds of Lake Highlands, but the food is delicious enough to draw neighbors to Forest and 75. With names like Pho Shizzle (chicken, red bell peppers and caramelized onions), Loaded Notato (housemade bacon, jalapenos and blue cheese ranch) and Nashville Hot Chicken and Pickles, their pies are some of the most creative in town.

ZaLat has multiple locations, but the nearest is at 11613 N. Central Expy., and their menu is here.
