Florence Film Awards

Academy Awards won’t be presented until March 12, but you don’t have to wait that long to hear about some outstanding films and filmmakers. January’s Florence Film Awards were announced in Italy Tuesday, and Lake Highlands High School graduate Preston Eggert earned their Silver Award for Cinematography.

The Tale of Figaro, Eggert’s collaboration with colleagues from Belmont University, also won awards for Best Student Film, Best Comedy, Producer (Gwennie Skube), Original Score (Titus Cody), Actor (Philip J. Macaluso), First Time Director (Hannah Wacholtz), Actress (Alex Andrews), Editing (Lexa Thompson and Kayla Emmer) and Sound Design (Hayden Holthaus).

The Tale of Figaro follows a gnome’s wish for true love and his quest to find the loneliest child in the world.

When Eggert earned their Character Counts Award in 2017, he told Lake Highlands Exchange Club members he was heading off to college to become a filmmaker.

“I love to tell a story,” said Eggert, also a gifted songwriter and performer. “Visual storytelling is a passion of mine, and I love to create music videos or short films for my songs.”

Florence Film Awards is an international monthly film festival, and their mission is “to promote films and be another step up in the filmmakers’ careers.” A selection of films is screened each month in Florence at Scuola di Cinema Immagina, and winners qualify for inclusion in IMDb (International Movie Database).

Eggert is also listed on IMDb for his work on Oblivion in 2021, All Power in 2021 and A Wake in 2019.
