As temperatures drop across Dallas, some shelters are making space for those most vulnerable to the cold.
Austin Street Center is joining OurCalling, a nonprofit outreach center for the homeless, house the old Austin Street Center facility as a warming shelter for the homeless. The shelter they’re using can hold 360 people during the chilly weather.
Previously, Austin Street Center opened a new, larger homeless center at 1717 Jeffries Street. It has 100 more beds than the previous shelter space.
Lake Highlands High School grad Daniel Roby has led Austin Street Center as executive director since 2015.
