Lake Highlands High didn’t make it to the state finals in football this year, but Wildcat fans still have some skin in the game. When the Boerne Greyhounds play for the 4A Division I state championship Friday at AT&T Stadium, they’ll be led by head coach Che Hendrix, a 1995 graduate of LHHS, and defensive coordinator Brett Sawyer, a 1996 grad.
“We’ve got a tough group,” Hendrix said of his team after they defeated Chapel Hill 35-0 in the semifinals at the Alamodome. “They want to win, and they play for each other. When you play as a team and you believe as a team, great things can happen. I’m just super proud of them.”
Boerne’s championship game in Dallas against China Spring will be their first state title appearance. Kickoff is at 3 p.m., and tickets may be purchased here.
