For the first time, the International Federation of Sports Climbing Youth World Championships will be hosted in the United States. USA Climbing organized the event.

Our neighborhood has been chosen to host the championships. The competition, at Movement Gym at The Hill, is from Aug. 22-25. More than 400 youth climbers will be there for the bouldering division of the competition.

The organization’s Youth World Championships have also drawn and produced Olympic champions, according to a media release:

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champions Janja Garnbret of Slovenia, and Alberto Ginés López of Spain, along with legendary climbers such as Noguchi Akiyo of Japan, and Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic, all competed and won at previous editions of the IFSC Youth World Championships, making it an almost-mandatory step to go through for the elite of the Sport Climbing circuit.

“Movement has always held a special place for climbing competitions and we are excited to share this passion with both the athletes and the attendees, while furthering the sport of climbing on the world stage,” Movement CEO Robert Cohen said in a press release.

A lead and speed division will also happen at Summit in Plano.

There will be corn hole, other lawn games, picnic tables and outdoor furniture for guest during the day, courtesy of The Hill. A full schedule can be found here.

Movement is located at 8021 Walnut Hill Lane.
