Update at 2:45 p.m. Thursday: The gunman, identified as 44-year-old Jorge Saldenos Escobar Flores, is believed to be the estranged husband of the victim, 33-year-old Karla Castillo. She was shot several times and died at the hospital. Castillo’s 14-year-old daughter is in recovery at the hospital, and her 10-year-old son was not injured. Flores was found in the bathroom, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A woman is dead and her daughter is in surgery after a shooting near Audelia Road and Forest Lane overnight. The woman’s young son was not injured. After a lengthy standoff, police found the gunman dead this morning, WFAA reports.

The incident began when Dallas police were called about 12:40 a.m. regarding two people shot at the Bernard Apartments, 12100 Audelia. The woman was taken to a one hospital, where she died from her injuries, and her 14-year-old daughter was taken to another hospital with a gunshot to her stomach.

Officers surrounded the apartment overnight as the gunman was believed to have barricaded himself inside. Dallas SWAT later broke their way in and found him dead inside the apartment.

The names of the shooter and victims have not been released.
