Looks like there’s a new meal delivery service in town.
Shef is a delivery service specializing in straight-to-door global meals. It launched this month in Dallas but already services Austin, Houston, Seattle, Boston, Chicago and the Bay Area.
The service is comprised of local home cooks, called ‘shefs’, with dishes from 10 Indian regions and states and Pakistan. Though it is now exclusively Indian and Pakistan food in our city, the service will include more global dishes soon.
Shef was co-founded by Alvin Salehi and Joey Grassia in 2019 to provide a platform for diverse cooks who want to build their food businesses and make an income.
“Dallas is home to so many thriving immigrant diasporas. It’s an honor to help members of Dallas’s Indian and Pakistani communities share their culture through food, and we look forward to offering more cuisines in the future,” Shef co-founder Grassia said in a press release.
Shef Priya is a local favorite servicing our area who was born and raised in Visakhapatnam in South India. She missed the food in her home country and recreated the flavors from home once she moved to the U.S. to remedy her homesickness.
“…I took on the challenge of recreating my grandmother’s classic dishes – tangy tomato rice, comforting pongal, and organic aloo chole curry chickpeas masala. I have loved sharing a taste of my home with family and friends and am excited to be able to offer it to the wider Dallas community,” Priya said in the release.
Local regulations vary by region but, at a minimum, all cooks on Shef are required to pass an accredited food safety certification exam, undergo a food quality assessment and are subject to regular food quality checks.
Shef delivers to the 75243 ZIP code, but you can also find other local neighborhoods on the site.
