Junior Players’ new season includes two shows and a collaboration with DISD and Dallas Playwriting Artist Collective.
On May 4 and 6 at On The Levee, Discover Runway Dreams: Reflections will be the first production. It’s directed by Kristin Colaneri and “focuses on our evolution as a society by taking us on a journey from how social inequities have affected our community in the past, to the opportunities for growth we currently have in the present, to a celebration of our similarities, and differences, that will lead to a brighter future.”
There will be auditions for the closing act of the season, As You Like It, starting May 14. Production runs from Aug. 2-7. As You Like It is directed by Joel Ferrell and follows Rosalind, the protagonist, who flees from her uncle’s court to find an escape in the forest and finds love in the process.
Between those two productions, PUP Fest starts on Jun. 11. The fest is part of a partnership between DISD, Junior Players and Kitchen Dog Theatre. There are six staged readings, and submissions are open now.
Six scripts from eligible students will be chosen. Students in grades ninth through 12 can send submissions and find more details on juniorplayers.org. Submissions close end of day on April 15.
More information will be available soon on the Junior Players website.
