At Home, the superstore featuring discount home goods, opened Wednesday at Skillman and Northwest Highway at the Timber Creek shopping center space formerly occupied by JCPenney. The national chain already has metroplex locations in Farmers Branch, Plano, Garland and Mesquite.

At Home was originally founded in 1979 as Garden Ridge Pottery. The first store opened in Schertz, Texas, and became popular after expanding to Houston and beyond. The chain went public but grew too quickly, resulting in bankruptcy in 2004. AEA Investors, a New York-based private equity firm which also owns 24 Hour Fitness, Burt’s Bees and other brands, purchased Garden Ridge in 2011 and changed the name to At Home in 2014.
