Parents have been mixed up over the calendars Richardson Independent School District has released in the past week.
So far, an A, B and C option have been presented to the board, but the district is asking for parents’ feedback on just two options in a survey.
In the Jan. 24 board meeting, the RISD Calendar Committee proposed going by mandatory minutes of instruction under House Bill 2610 rather than mandatory days instruction. The calendar minutes must be a minimum of 75,600 minutes, which would be equivalent to 174 school days.
Option A has a back to school date of Aug. 10 and end date of May 25, option B is the same as A except for a 5-day snow weekend. Option C has a back to school date of Aug. 16 and end date of May 26.
The calendar choices parents are asked to vote on are option A and option C. One of the main differences between the calendars is the amount of staff development days, but both are proposed to end the 2022-23 school year before Memorial Day.
RISD Calendar Committee will present a final calendar to board trustees on Feb. 15 at the next board meeting.
Parents can provide feedback on RISD’s Let’s Talk.
