If art is your calling, the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture is calling for you.
This coming April, Dallas’ five cultural centers — Bath House Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, Moody Performance Hall, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, and South Dallas Cultural Center — present the 2022 ART214 Juried Exhibition, a multi-venue visual arts project that showcases the works of local artists.
“Through this exhibition, OAC hopes to discover and develop relationships with new artists, provide opportunities for artists to exhibit their work for the first time in one of our cultural centers or for the first time ever, and give artists who have previously exhibited at one cultural center an opportunity to show their work at a different center,” according to a press release from the OAC.
The office also aims to attract newcomers who are curious about, but have yet to experience, our local arts scene.
“This collaborative project will also draw in audiences who have never been to (or even heard of) our cultural centers, resulting in a cross pollination of audiences who frequent a specific center but have never experienced the others,” the OAC says in its announcement.
Art in all media created in the last five years by artists who currently live in the DFW and Greater North Texas region is eligible. Art selected for previous ART214 exhibitions will not.
All concepts and subject matter are welcome. All art should be ready for installation at the time of delivery. Artists whose work requires the use of electronic equipment (DVD players, projectors, computers, etc.) must provide their own equipment.
There are no restrictions on the size of the artwork, but bear in mind that artists are responsible for the transportation of their works and their prompt removal after the show closes. If the scale or complexity of a work of art presents a difficulty, some of the centers will require installation assistance by the artists.
The submissions deadline is Feb. 5. Selection notification is March 12. Details on submitting entries are available here.
