Due to rising COVID-19 cases and an effort to keep performers safe, Junior Players has postponed the dates of Be More Chill.
In a Facebook post, the Junior Players wrote they have a responsibility to keep patrons, performers, staff and the rest of the team safe. It was a sad decision.
“After much discussion internally, with other theater groups, our Junior Players Board of Directors, and public health professionals, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to postpone Be More Chill,” Junior Players wrote. “Our teen participants have done an absolutely wonderful job at telling this beautiful story and we believe wholeheartedly that they deserve the chance to perform it and showcase their hard work on stage in a manner that does not risk their safety.”
Originally scheduled for Jan. 6 -Jan. 9 at Moody Performance Hall, fourteen performers were in the Ryan Matthieu Smith directed cast.
Be More Chill is a stage musical originally produced in 2015 by Joe Tracz. The original play was based on a book of the same name that was written by Ned Vizzini.
The musical chronicles the story of Jeremy Heere, a regular teenager trying to get through Middleborough High School. His life changes once he discovers a tiny supercomputer called “The Squip,” which promises to get him anything he could want.
Junior Players is located at 12225 Greenville Ave.
