Alamo Drafthouse Lake Highlands expects to open Aug. 13.
Alamo Drafthouse is set to reopen Aug. 13 in Lake Highlands’ Creekside shopping center.
This date is still tentative, according to the cinema chain’s most recent update on reopening their theaters. But, being on the list at all confirms that the theater is definitely coming back soon, they shared.
Alamo Drafthouse announced earlier this year that it would start opening locations in June. The news followed a tease from Matthew McConaughey during the Oscars broadcast.
“Theaters are coming back,” he said, standing outside the chain’s Austin location on South Lamar.
The Lamar location has since reopened, joining 14 other operating Alamo Drafthouse locations nationwide. Locations in Austin and New York state are also currently planned to open Aug. 13 along with the Lake Highlands location. Another 10 theaters trail behind with reopenings into the fall.
With the reopening comes new safety protocols, including updates to the frequency and the thoroughness of theater cleans and the installation of MERV-13 air filtration systems at many Alamo Drafthouse locations. The theaters will also set auditorium seating and mask rules based on the strongest current local or federal regulations.
