Lake Highlands High School 2000 graduate Daniel Roby has earned Baylor University’s Pro Ecclesia Medal of Service, awarded to alums whose broad contributions to Christian ministry have made an immeasurable impact. Roby serves as CEO of Austin Street Center, which provides safe shelter and other basic needs for Dallas’ most vulnerable homeless population.
University leaders noted Roby’s accomplishments since he took the reins at Austin Street in 2015 – he doubled the number of case managers, initiated diversion and aftercare programs and embraced the “Housing First” model of shelter management. In September, he executed a $15 million capital campaign for construction of a new 60,000 square foot, 24/7 emergency shelter and day service center scheduled to open next year.
Roby is a leader in citywide discussions on the perplexing problem of homelessness throughout Dallas, and he served on the board of Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance and as chair of the Homeless Management Information System committee. Former Mayor Mike Rawlings appointed him to the city’s Commission on Homelessness, and he currently serves on the executive council of the Continuum of Care. He was named Nonprofit CEO of the Year in 2017 by the Center for Nonprofit Management.
Congratulations, Daniel.
