If you take weather predictions from a rodent, prepare yourself for six more weeks of winter.
Arboretum Annie saw her shadow Tuesday morning at a Groundhog Day celebration at the Dallas Arboretum. That means six more weeks of winter, according to legend.
Annie made her prediction at 7:21 a.m. around sunrise, shortly after Ken Barth, the Arboretum’s public events chairman, read this proclamation:
Greetings my friends, let’s come together, I’m here to predict our Texas weather.Â
Please stop laughing, it can be done. I’m Arboretum Annie, the enlightened one.Â
So here it comes, to enhance my fame, this potent rodent, does here proclaim:
Shadow, no shadow, so there you have it,
Come sun or come gloom, springtime is coming, and Dallas will bloom.Â
The Arboretum organized its first Groundhog Day celebration three years ago. Although Annie is new to the weather forecasting business, her competitor, Punxsutawney Phil, also saw his shadow.
