“Even though the vaccine is starting to become available, we must remain very diligent in following our health and safety protocols,” Stone said in the video.

Last month, RISD signed onto a letter asking for teachers and staff who work with students to be considered essential workers and gain priority to receive the vaccine when available.

There have been 1,076 positive cases among RISD students and 479 cases among employees since the start of the 2020-21 school year. Yesterday there were 58 active coronavirus cases among RISD students and employees in the Lake Highlands feeder pattern.

“Positive cases in our community continue to be very high, and we want to continue to do our part to protect our teachers, frontline staff and many people in our community who are at risk,” Stone said. “We want to make sure we’re protecting our students.”
