A Lake Highlands group is celebrating the neighborhood’s diversity through a 2021 diversity wall calendar project.
The Lake Highlands Area Moms Against Racism group is selling “We are Lake Highlands” 2021 calendars for $25 a pop. Each month will feature a diverse family in the neighborhood along with words on how to be a more inclusive neighbor.
“We wanted to do this calendar for the community, to highlight and celebrate the fact that Lake Highlands does have diversity,” said LHAMAR leader Lowry Manders. “We want it to be something that our community is proud of, and is willing to learn from so that we can all be better neighbors to one another.”
The calendar will also highlight important dates in BIPOC-American history and multicultural celebrations, she said.
Proceeds from calendar sales will support LHAMAR’s community programming, including antiracism trainings, speakers, work with teenagers, traveling, the Say Their Names memorial and virtual support groups, Manders said.
