When Lake Highlands High School juniors Drew Dubuclet and Jackson Marburger complete a job installing Christmas lights in the neighborhood, they always pause a moment to appreciate the season.
“What I enjoy about hanging Christmas lights is seeing the final product of all the houses being lit up for the holidays,” says Marburger. “It really feels like we have done a good deed when we finish the job, especially for the elders that are unable to get on the roof or reach a limb on a tree.”
Marburger stays busy at LHHS as manager of the varsity basketball team, and Dubuclet is a defensive standout on the undefeated Wildcat football team. Together, they serve as co-captains of the school’s bass fishing team.
So far, the duo has about 40 customers signed up, with about 20 jobs completed. They’re pretty flexible, but they typically embellish trees, rooflines, mailboxes and/or bushes. Their price ranges from $100-300, though they charge more if they need to purchase lights for you.
Despite the arduous tasks of climbing ladders and untangling light strings, the guys say they’ve been counting the days until the holidays arrive.
“I enjoy Christmas because I love sitting around the fire with my family and enjoying how thankful I am to be here with everything going on in the world currently,” says Marburger. “I love waking up on Christmas morning with my family with presents under the tree and enjoying a home cooked meal.”
