Richardson ISD’s rapid antigen screening program for students and staff who develop COVID-19 symptoms at school will begin in December.

The district was approved to receive 15,640 rapid tests monthly from the Texas Education Agency, according to RISD officials in early November. The number of tests delivered to each campus is based on the amount of positive cases in the school community.

In-school screenings will be optional and provided at no cost to students with parent consent. A completed consent form, which can be found here, is required from each student to be eligible to receive a screening test.

Students and staff opting to be tested can expect to receive results in 15 minutes. The test involves a nasal swab in both nostrils.

The rate of sensitivity for a true positive is 97.1% and the rate of specificity for a true negative is 98.5%, per district officials.
